Barwon Heads House 2
2012
Barwon Heads, Victoria
Wadawurrung Country
Framed by coastal dunes, key references from the cultural memory of Australian summers past were integrated into Barwon Heads House, crafting a new chapter for the owners. Accessed across a timber boardwalk, a pair of simple, weathered gabled forms discreetly appear upon approach, scaled to ensure the house nestles within the surroundings. The deliberate placement of the living spaces on the upper level offers visual access to the expansive views across a canopy of adjacent tea trees. The children's spaces below embrace a traditional backyard cricket pitch, with glimpses in a labyrinth of hidden pathways weaving through the surrounding foliage. Through subtle layering and integration with the existing natural elements, the home combines a connection to memory and place, bringing them together with a quiet intent.
