Hampton House

2009

Hampton, NSW
Gundungurra Country

Nestled amongst the rolling hills west of the Blue Mountains, Hampton House is a quiet study in placemaking. Taking form in a protective and subtly curved manner that shelters a linear plan, the approach shields against the harsh southerly elements while opening northward, embracing expansive views and sunlight. At its heart, a central deck and firepit anchor the home and create opportunities for extended family gathering. Modest in scale yet richly layered, the home aims to balance both a robustness with a refinement. In extending an optimised approach to living and comfort throughout, all spaces are north facing with full-height glazing, and together with a restrained material palette, ensures a simple, connected flow throughout. Designed for both retreat and reconnection, the intentional order of form and function offer an immersive alignment with its surrounds.
