Hotel Lindrum
1999
Melbourne, Victoria
The design of Hotel Lindrum achieves a fine balance between the retention and restoration of the historic Griffith Tea Merchants building, and the introduction of a contemporary architectural language.
The brick piers and internal arched wall niches of the existing building have been revealed, providing an ordering rhythm to the internal spaces.
Within the framework of the existing structure, contemporary raw steel and recycled timber elements are introduced. These provide a complex layering of new and old creating a rich, textured environment.
