Wildfell, the nucleus of Melbourne Girls Grammar's middle school is a rich learning environment for young adolescents, sitting comfortably within the constraints of a dense inner-urban site. Situated within the school's Merton Hall campus in South Yarra, the project utilises the space beneath the playing fields to orient the precinct towards a northern aspect, encouraging a more organic integration of indoor and outdoor learning zones.

Internally, the spaces are conceived as a tapestry of flexible arrangements and settings, designed to promote dynamic interaction between staff and students, as well as amongst the students themselves. The focus on integrating technology throughout the general learning areas is complemented by a new 'digilab' facility - a specialised space dedicated as an interactive environment for digital exploration.

Circulation spaces are integral and celebrated as more than transitional spaces, instead playing a vital role for social engagement and spontaneous encounters. Anchoring the precinct, an open kitchen space sits adjacent to a central double-height gathering space, encouraging and strengthening a sense of community and assisting in shaping the identity for this vital part of the school.
