The Sorting Shed House is located at the foot of Mount Buffalo and is expressed as a series of bold cubic forms that are framed by mature elm trees. Constructed from textured concrete walls that incorporate local river pebbles, the house combines a contemporary reinterpretation of the familiar and expansive warehouse space typically found amongst the district's traditional tobacco sorting shed forms. The encompassing shell defining the outer walls is carefully crafted to reveal a series of decks and window bays, all of which connect outward to the sub-alpine landscape. At its core, the house combines a robustness and simplicity, establishing an enduring conduit between past and present.
