Tour East Travel Services Kiosk
Sydney International Airport
2012
Sydney, NSW
Gadigal Country
The kiosk sits as a pavilion in the arrivals halls, freestanding off the façade, separate but related to the terminal building. The brief was for a minimalist design that moves away from the multi-media and multiple messages often experienced in information kiosks. The concept was for a simple sculptural form and material palette to provide a focused, cohesive display of product and a memorable character.
An external shell of plywood sheet is wrapped over a dark, linoleum inner core. The basic form is then modified; bent to create nooks, lowered to form the desk, open to create views out and cut to contain and highlight product information. Its form addresses multiple approaches from the concourse, baggage collection and the arrivals road beyond.
The Tour East Travel Services Kiosks are located in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth and were completed in November 2012.
