Two Oaks House
2023
Flinders, Victoria
Bunurong Country
As a second collaboration for a long-standing client, Two Oaks House evolved into a distinct courtyard home with two separate masonry wings, connected via a glazed link. Located on the Mornington Peninsula, the home responds to a sloping site that retains two mature oaks (as its namesake). Designed as an H-form arrangement, the strategy integrates the landscape and existing natural elements to both ground the home and overlay height to embrace vistas from the site. The design supports multi-generational living with flexible and adaptable spaces, while remaining authentically connected to the surroundings, with a vine-covered pergola and courtyard pool. To maximise access to natural northern light, the living areas are aligned in a linear fashion, referencing a connection to past homes of the owners and anchoring the building within its setting. The result is a private, light-filled retreat that honours both the legacy of the inhabitants and a strong connection to place.
