Yarra House

Ongoing

Melbourne, Victoria
Wurundjeri Country

Set within a riverbank environment, the underpinning principles of Yarra House create a series of organic, flowing forms shaped by the site’s natural contours. Inspired by the meandering movement of water through the landscape, the design sits embedded within the site, blurring boundaries between built and natural elements. Spaces flow between zones and across the site, with the creation of a dramatic double-height volume that opens to the river’s edge. A double height void creates volume in an uplifting living space, celebrating the adjacent majestic river gums lining the riverbank. A restrained elemental palette of natural brick and timber grounds the home within its riverside context. As an immersion within the landscape, the house combines layers and textural diversity to respond to place, movement, and time.
